ROTC News: November Newsletter
ROTC NewsJROTC November Newsletter

School is in full swing as is the burgeoning JROTC program. Our ranks have swelled to a small population of 192 cadets in SY 2008/2009!!
I would not be surprised to see those numbers increase even more in the coming years. Thus far we competed in North Georgia with two female and one male raider team (fitness). With the economy the way it is we had to downsize and drive vans, but we “Got Err Done”. All had a great time and a big thank you to our chaperones, Ms. Davis and Ms. Lasher!!
Completed our first fundraiser with the selling of cheesecakes. Your sons, daughters, and of course, yourselves sold over $17,000 worth of cheesecakes making our profits of a $7000 check. Seems like a small fortune but when you add up our transportation and logistical support to the program at the end of the school year our profits turn into zero balance, which is the price of having an awesome program!
In early October we took our seniors who wanted to attend to the local St. Petersburg USF campus for an orientation and remarks concerning ROTC scholarships. Hopefully, some our seniors who will be attending college next fall will take their scheduled SAT’s/Act’s, and apply for an ROTC scholarship online. Speaking of scholarships. Congratulations are in order to Mr. Courtney Goner, a recent 2008 graduate. He is now attending FAMU on a full ROTC scholarship. Remember, National ROTC scholarship deadline application is December 15, 2008!
At the local Dixie Hollins drill meet on October 18, 2008 we competed against Gibbs and Dixie Hollins. Our opponents were merciless and we came in overall second.
This meet is like a sandlot drill meet, where teams work out their “kinks” Our next meet when we apply these learned lessons will be at the University of Tampa against approximately 50 other JROTC programs from as far away as Tallahassee to Miami. Hope to see many of our moms and dads there!! It will hosted at the University of Tampa on November 15, 2008 from 8:00AM until about 4:00PM.
This first semester will be ending before we know it and there is much to do, as listed below:
a. Orienteering at Wekiva November 1
b. Parent Meeting Nov 6 JROTC classroom 15-42
c. National Raider Meet in Molena, GA 8 November
d. Veteran’s Day November 11 on campus
e. University of Tampa Drill Meet 15 November
f. Stuart Florida Raider Meet & Kelly Park Orienteering on 13 December
g. Toy’s for Tots on 20 December

One Down and Many To Go
ROTC NewsAnonymous writes "It has been an awesome 4 years, working, traveling, and supporting the ROTC program at Boca Ceiga High School.and I'm  not done yet. Eventhough I have no kids left to go through the program, I  am going to continue to stand behind this awesome program!  I have watched my overweight little boy turn into a lean, fit man. I encourage all of the parents to get on the inside of this program, make plans this year to go on as many tripsas you can, send donations when you can't. Stand for what this program teaches our children and watch the different level of respect your son or daughter has for you at home. They are taught to be respectful, courteous and obey instruction. It's the same principle we teach at home. I dare you to get involved! climb a few mountains, sleep in a few tents. eat a few Military meals and when it's all done you will have seen you child turn into a young man or lady right before your eyes.

High School is just as important as the early years. when we dont take our eyes off of our kids. We dont want to miss anything. the first step, the first time they speak. High School is the first step into the rest of their lives. the time we need to pay close attention because  it's their first step into adulthood, and they will speak without us being around. It may be at a college interveiw, or a job interveiw. If I could change anything in the past 4 years. ROTC would definatly NOT be listed. Go and meet Col. McGlamry and 1st Sarg. Baraccio, talk to them, ask them what can you do for the program. you won't be sorry.Please.........just get involved!!!"

National Awards Ceremony
ROTC News
The ceremony went well today.  I am sure everybody had a good time.  LTC McGlamry had a nice new game to play while handing out the awards.  The cadets and parents enjoyed it.  Each year, the number of award recipients keeps growing.  Nearly every cadet in the battalion was there today.  Or maybe it really was every one!  There was definitely a great representation of the quality cadets we have at Boca Ciega.
