JROTC Newsletter This year the Boca Ciega JROTC Drill and Raider teams have been excelling in many competitions! In November, both teams went to a meet in South Carolina and took home many titles, despite bus troubles. The Raider team placed 2nd overall in fitness. The competition consisted of a timed physical training test, a 5-kilometer obstacle course, and a land navigation test. The drill team placed first in armed and unarmed squad, first in quartet and dual exhibition and second in armed platoon. The following weekend, the Raider team competed against ten other teams at Alonso High School in Tampa. The female team placed first advancing to the state raider meet. The male team placed third, just three points from proceeding to the state meet. Last month the teams competed again at the Admiral Farragut Military Academy. They placed second in the personal inspection, first in female physical training, and second in male physical training. Congratulations to everyone who competed! You all were outstanding! On December 19th, our program gave back to the community by volunteering for Toys for Tots; a program designed to aid families during the holiday season. Each cadet in the program was required to write an essay on how the JROTC program builds character and leadership for a nationwide contest. Savings bond prizes of up to $300 will be awarded to the three winning cadets. A trip to Boy Scout Camp Flaming Arrow will be from February 26th to the 28th. At the camp cadets will participate in rappelling and a ropes course. Coming up on March 6th is the district drill meet, please show your support and wish us luck!
