Subject:  Letter of Instruction –Wekiwa Springs Orienteering

 

  1. The Boca Ciega High School JROTC will participate in an Orienteering Meet at Wekiwa Springs 11/14/09. Orienteering is a recreational and competitive sport, which involves using a map and compass and finding one’s way in unfamiliar terrain/woods.  Students must be in good physical condition and acclimated to the weather at the time of competition. 
  2. All students should bring money for the cost of breakfast.  (No more than $10 dollars).  The bus will cost $20 for each student attending.  Maps will be purchased by the SAI.  Sandwiches will be served at the site.
  3. Light clothing and sneakers or comfortable clothes and walking shoes should be worn as well as a hat.   Additionally, sunscreen is advised due to the sun.  Some of the terrain is thick with bushes and thorns, as well as water/swamps can be expected at some of the crossing sites.  Students should plan on inclement weather, or being very dirty and sweaty, and should bring additional clothing for changing after orienteering.
  4. All students must have school insurance and a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in order to attend.
  5. The attached permission slip should be turned in No Later                           .
  6. Any student who is allergic to anything should bring their medication for use if necessary. There are no medical facilities on site.
  7. For those students who have camel packs for water or canteens, then they should bring them.

Additionally, any parent who wants to attend and learn to orienteer or just go along and watch is more than welcome to ride the bus or follow in their own transportation.
